Affordable Health Care Ruling May Increase Demand at Practices
In light of The Supreme Court ruling on healthcare, we’ve prepared a fact sheet about the Accountable Care Act’s main provisions.
The ruling by the United States Supreme Court that the healthcare law (the Affordable Care Act, ) is constitutional removes some uncertainty in the healthcare industry. However, the Supreme Court created new uncertainty by ruling that the Medicaid expansion is unconstitutional as written. The Court said that the Federal government can’t force states to expand Medicaid eligibility, but it can create a voluntary program with matching funds.
In the immediate future, the ACA is likely to create demand for services in medical practices nationwide. We anticipate coverage needs for Advanced Practice Providers to increase as a result of this increased demand.

AdvancedPractice.com Releases Advanced Practice Health Care Provider Compensation Survey
Alpharetta, GA -- In late 2011 AdvancedPractice.com, a firm dedicated to matching great employers with highly-qualified Advanced Practice Providers for locum tenens (contract) employment, commissioned a survey of 880 Providers -- asking them to share their annual compensation, their outlooks on their role within medical care in the U.S.; and their reasons for recent or planned job changes in a market that remains strong for this professional group.
Some highlights of the just-released findings from the study include:
- 72 percent of APPs say they are currently 'Satisfied' or 'Very Satisfied' with their current responsibilities within their jobs.
- 56 percent see APPs as 'gaining more responsibility within the delivery of patient care'.
- Among those who see APPs gaining more responsibility, only 24 percent believe that 'compensation is keeping pace' with their increased responsibilities.
The complete survey report is available on the AdvancedPractice.com website: www.advancedpractice.com
With the economics of U.S. Healthcare delivery changing, the role of Advanced Practice Providers (Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Certified Nurse-Midwives and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists) within that service model is increasing. AdvancedPractice.com, with its focus on this employment category, will also be participating in the American Academy of Nurse Practitioner (AANP) and American Academy of Physicians Assistants (AAPA) national conferences later this year in support of these providers.

As many of you know, Jackson Healthcare has conducted extensive research on defensive medicine since 2009. We are now working hard to reduce its negative impact on patients, physicians and healthcare costs.
Yesterday, we issued a press release announcing a new organization, called Patients for Fair Compensation. I’ve attached this release for your information.
This organization seeks to support policy prescriptions that will:
- Reduce the incidence of unnecessary tests and procedures ordered by health care providers to protect themselves from potential lawsuits
- Eliminate both the personal financial liability of physicians and the litigation process
- Improve the quality of patient care, while expediting the patient complaints and compensation system
We will continue to keep you updated on our progress and activities.

President and CEO, Jackson Healthcare (parent company of AdvancedPractice.com)

A New Normal: A Tribute to Freeman Health System and Its Associates

Click here to view the video
The city of Joplin, Missouri experienced much devastation after tornadoes hit the region earlier in 2011. Joplin’s Freeman Health System stepped up to the plate, after neighboring hospital, St. John’s Regional Medical Center was struck down.
Freeman Health System is a client AdvancedPractice.com's parent company Jackson Healthcare. Although the national media covered and followed the disaster, we felt that Freeman wasn’t recognized for its gallant efforts.
Freeman put their community first before their own personal needs, which is a gesture in alignment with Jackson Healthcare’s Core Value of putting “Others First.”
We recognized that Freeman’s employees went the extra mile and therefore the Jackson Healthcare family of companies collected $10,000 to contribute to the Freeman Employee Relief Fund. The following Jackson companies donated to this cause: Jackson & Coker, Jackson Nurse Professionals, Jackson Surgical Assistants, Jackson Therapy Partners, LocumTenens.com Premier Anesthesia and AdvancedPractice.com.
We hope that you will take a few minutes to view this video that truly highlights the courageous efforts of the staff at Freeman Health Center.
