As a temporary health care provider, you’ll be utilized in areas such as Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedics, Surgery, Primary Care, Oncology, Geriatrics, Psychiatry, Dermatology...to name a few. Job descriptions vary and can include performing such duties as conducting rounds with a physician team, admitting and discharging patients, assisting in surgeries and assisting private practices.
Throughout this section, we will try to help with some tips in case you have never worked with a medical staffing recruiter before. And certainly important if you are not familiar with working with recruiters who do Locum Tenens (contract) staffing.
Creating Your Personal Elevator Pitch
Before submitting your resume (CV) on our site, make sure it includes your personal "elevator pitch" -- so named because it should be concise enough to tell the entire story in the time it takes to ride an elevator with your new contact. If you have never created one before, below is a brief description of how to do it:
It is sometimes difficult to summarize in a single paragraph your entire career, but if you want to find success working with recruiters, this exercise is well worth some quality time.
What does the personal elevator pitch need to do? Basically answer some questions:
- Who are you? This is the first question you should ask yourself when constructing your elevator pitch.
- What are you seeking? And what have you done in the past that supports that goal.
- What can you offer? (i.e. You have to offer something of value that few others could offer. This is often called your unique selling proposition or USP).
- Request action - be explicit about what you want someone to do (i.e. hire you full time or contract).
Finally, put it all together into a 60 second "story" that you can easily memorize without it sounding rehearsed.
The Elevator Pitch should also be included at the very top of your resume, so it jumps out immediately to the recruiter flipping through the day's stack of unsolicited resumes.
