Be Prepared for Credentialing
Having your credentials in order and ready to go is critical to your successful placement in a prime locum tenens position.
The Director of the AdvancedPractice.com credentialing team has these suggestions for Providers:
- Represent yourself well from the beginning. Send us all the documentation we ask for quickly and in clean condition. Believe it or not, unresponsiveness, sloppiness or disorganization all provide preliminary indicators to your recruiter on what they can expect when sending you over to the client as a candidate for a position. Realize that you are not the only candidate this recruiter is handling at any given moment in time. Your cooperation with the credentialing staff will pay big dividends in your recruiter’s confidence level when presenting you to his/her client. Hospital privileging requirements must be met as quickly as possible as often hospital boards only meet and approved privileges once or twice per month! A delay in returning applications and copies of documents could cause a delay in your scheduled start date by up to one month.
- Make it easy on yourself. If you return documents and requested information to us, we can also assist by pre-populating the privileging application – which saves you time. Once we have everything and anything we ask from you for the first job, subsequent applications will be fast and easy (we simply re-credential every year and only need updates on whatever has changed or expired). Remember, we want this to be a long relationship, so making that investment in up-front time is certainly a good investment if you plan to work Locum Tenens with AdvancedPractice.com for many years.
- Make sure that you are reachable. Credentialing is very time-sensitive. Make sure we have several phone numbers where we can reach you. If we leave a message, make sure to respond to the call as soon as you possibly can. Quick turnaround is often the “make or break” between you and the other Providers being offered up for the position. Worst yet, a client deeming you unresponsive could cause them to schedule another Provider in your place.
- Be completely transparent. In this electronic age coupled with increasingly stringent JHACO and hospital credentialing requirements and verifications, be forthright with your recruiter and credentialing coordinator. That termination or involuntary dismissal will catch you with you if you don’t disclose this or any other incident up front. AdvancedPractice.com and our clients expect honesty and full disclosure and no one likes surprises late in the credentialing process. AdvancedPractice.com and our clients expend time, resources and expense to assure timely and successful credentialing. Finding something late in the process that was not on your application could waste your time and negatively affect hospital privileging and approved credentials with AdvancedPractice.com.
